Captain's Wash Monthly Boat Maintenance

Is your boat showing its age with a dull, faded, or discolored appearance? Don’t let captain’s wash take away from your boat’s natural beauty. At Sunrise Marine Detailing, we offer two proven approaches to captain’s wash: a Buff and Wax service for light to moderate captain’s wash, and a Full Restoration with wet sanding for boats that need deeper correction. Either way, we bring your gel coat back to life.

Not every boat needs the same treatment. That’s why we offer two distinct packages, so you pay for the work your boat actually needs and nothing more.

Buff and Wax is our most popular service for boats with light to moderate captain’s wash or a dull gel coat. Using professional-grade marine compounds and polishes, we cut through the haze and restore a deep, glossy finish. Faster turnaround and more affordable than a full restoration, and the right fit for most boats in the Tampa Bay area.

Full Restoration is for boats with heavy captain’s wash, chalky gel coat, or years of neglect. We wet sand to fully remove the captain’s wash layer, then follow with multi-stage compound, polish, and a protective wax or ceramic finish. It’s the deepest correction we offer.

Not sure which one your boat needs? Send us a few photos and we’ll tell you honestly. Most boats do great with a buff and wax.

What is the Captain's Wash?

The Captain’s Wash is our monthly maintenance program. We come to your dock or marina on a regular schedule and give your boat a thorough cleaning. It is the easiest way to keep your boat looking great between major details without doing it yourself.

What is Included

  • Full exterior wash and rinse
  • Deck and non-skid scrub
  • Vinyl seat wipe-down and spot cleaning
  • Compartment touchup
  • Hull waterline scrub (above waterline)
  • Quick inspection for oxidation, mold, and damage

Why Monthly Maintenance Matters in Florida

Florida’s sun, salt, and humidity work against your boat every single day. Without regular cleaning, salt builds up and eats into the gelcoat. Mold starts growing on vinyl seats within weeks. Bird droppings and pollen leave permanent stains if left too long. Monthly maintenance prevents all of that. Boats on the Captain’s Wash program last longer between major details. The regular cleaning keeps contaminants from bonding to the surface, which means your next Full Detail or ceramic coating lasts longer and costs less.

How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Monthly Wash Plan FAQ

Captain's Wash FAQs

Regular monthly washes prevent most long-term gelcoat and vinyl damage. Letting salt, bird debris, and pollen sit on a boat for months is how you end up needing a full detail or restoration. Monthly washes are much cheaper than the fixes they prevent.
Our monthly wash plans run $100 to $300 per visit depending on boat size. Smaller boats in the 18 to 22 ft range are on the lower end; larger cruisers run higher.
A monthly wash includes full exterior washdown, spot-cleaning of salt and bird deposits, vinyl wipe-down, and a quick visual check. It is maintenance, not restoration. Deep cleans and full details are separate services.
Monthly wash plans are month-to-month with no contracts. You can pause, skip, or cancel any month. Most customers keep them running year-round because the value is obvious once you see what it prevents.
Once you are on the plan, we schedule your monthly wash as a recurring appointment. That keeps the boat consistently clean without you having to remember to book.
Monthly wash plans run $100 to $300 per visit depending on boat size. Typical Tampa Bay boats (22 to 30 ft) fall in the $150 to $250 range. Request a free quote for an exact price.
Full exterior wash, spot-cleaning of salt deposits and bird droppings, vinyl wipe-down, and a quick visual check for anything that needs follow-up attention. It is maintenance-level service, not restoration.
No. Monthly wash plans are month-to-month with no contracts. Pause, skip, or cancel any time.
No. Monthly washes prevent damage and keep the boat clean; they do not restore oxidized gelcoat or remove scratches. Full details and restorations handle the restoration side. Combine monthly washes with an annual full detail for best results.
No. As long as we have dock or boat access, we can handle the wash without you being there. Most customers give us access instructions once and never have to be home again.

Yes. Monthly is standard, but we also offer every-two-week and weekly schedules for boats that need more frequent attention or are used heavily.

No. Most Captain’s Wash customers give us dock or marina access and we handle everything. We send photos when the job is done.

We also offer Captain’s Wash for RVs and car ceramic coating maintenance (exterior only). Same per-foot pricing applies for RVs.

If we spot oxidation, mold, or damage during a visit, we let you know and give you a quote for the additional work. We do not upsell, we just keep you informed so small problems do not become big ones.
