Services Questions

What is the difference between Full Detail and Full Restoration?

Full Detail ($1,500-$3,000 range) uses machine compound and polish to remove light to moderate oxidation and restore gloss. Full Restoration ($1,900-$4,900 range) involves wet-sanding with progressively finer grits to remove heavy oxidation, deep scratches, and severe chalking. Most boats only need a Full Detail, and we will tell you honestly which one your boat needs.

What is ceramic coating and is it worth it?

Marine ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to your boat’s surface that bonds chemically with the gelcoat. It provides UV protection, hydrophobic water repellency, and makes the boat much easier to clean. Our ceramic coating lasts 2+ years and comes with a warranty. For boats kept in Florida sun, it is one of the best investments you can make.

Florida-Specific Questions

How often should I detail my boat in Florida?

In Florida’s intense UV and saltwater environment, we recommend a full detail (Full Detail or better) at least once a year, with monthly wash maintenance in between. Boats kept in the water full-time benefit from quarterly deep cleans. Read our full guide on detailing frequency.

How do I prevent mold on my boat seats?

Keep seats dry, improve ventilation, clean seats monthly with a marine vinyl cleaner, and apply a vinyl protectant with UV and mold inhibitors. For persistent mold problems, professional treatment is the fastest solution. See our mold prevention guide.

Is ceramic coating worth it in Florida?

Absolutely. Florida’s UV index is among the highest in the country, and ceramic coating provides the strongest UV protection available for gelcoat. It also makes saltwater rinsing more effective and reduces how often you need to wax.

What is the typical boat detailing cost per foot in Tampa Bay?

Mobile boat detailing in the Tampa Bay area typically runs from around $15 to $40+ per linear foot for a wash and wax, with full restoration details (heavy oxidation removal, compounding, multi-stage polish) running $50 to $100+ per foot. Ceramic coating packages are quoted separately and often start near $100 per foot depending on prep. Final pricing depends on hull condition, oxidation level, and whether the boat is on a trailer, lift, or in the water. Sunrise Marine Detailing provides flat per-foot quotes after a quick photo review so there are no surprises on service day.

How do I find a marine ceramic coating installer near Tampa Bay?

Boat ceramic coating is a professionally applied liquid polymer that bonds to your gelcoat or paint, creating a hydrophobic, UV-resistant layer that lasts 1 to 5 years depending on the product and prep. Quality marine coatings require a fully decontaminated, polished surface, controlled application conditions, and proper cure time. In the Tampa Bay area, expect pricing from roughly $100 to $250+ per foot for professional application. Sunrise Marine Detailing applies marine-specific ceramic systems at your dock or lift in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa, with prep documented at every stage.

How much does boat bottom cleaning cost?

Boat bottom cleaning (hauled-out pressure wash and hull scrub) in the Tampa Bay area typically runs $8 to $15 per foot for a routine cleaning, and $20 to $40+ per foot if heavy growth, barnacles, or bottom paint prep is involved. In-water diver cleanings are priced separately and depend on growth level and hull length. Pricing also varies based on whether the running gear, trim tabs, and transducers need detailed attention. Sunrise Marine Detailing focuses on topside detailing, gelcoat restoration, and ceramic coating, and refers bottom work to trusted partners when needed.

How long does mobile boat detailing take on the average Tampa Bay boat?

Mobile boat detailing time depends on length and scope. A wash and wax on a 22 to 26 foot center console typically takes 4 to 6 hours, full oxidation restoration on the same boat runs 1 to 2 full days, and ceramic coating adds another day for prep and cure. You don’t need to trailer the boat anywhere. A true mobile detailer comes to your dock, lift, slip, or driveway with water, power, and all supplies on the truck. Sunrise Marine Detailing services Tampa Bay and Pinellas County on site so your boat never leaves home.

How much extra is it to wax the gelcoat as well?

Adding a gelcoat wax to a wash typically increases the per-foot rate by $10 to $25 per foot in the Tampa Bay area, depending on hull condition and whether a light polish is needed first. On a 25 foot boat, that’s roughly $250 to $625 added to a standard wash. If the gelcoat is oxidized, a compound and polish stage is required before wax will bond and hold, which is priced separately. Sunrise Marine Detailing inspects your gelcoat before quoting so the wax you pay for actually lasts a full season in Florida sun.

How do I know if my boat detailing quote is fair?

A fair boat detailing quote in Tampa Bay is itemized per linear foot, names the exact services included (wash, wax, polish stages, oxidation level, interior, ceramic coating), and reflects your hull’s actual condition. Compare any quote against the regional ranges: roughly $15 to $40 per foot for wash and wax, $50 to $100+ per foot for full restoration, and $100 to $250+ per foot for ceramic coating. If a quote is dramatically below those ranges, ask what is being skipped. Sunrise Marine Detailing puts everything in writing so the quote you approve is the price you pay.

What is a boat oxidation remover and polish?

Boat oxidation remover is an abrasive marine compound that cuts away the chalky, UV-damaged top layer of gelcoat, while polish refines the surface to a high gloss. Heavy oxidation usually requires a two or three stage process: a cutting compound with wool pad, a medium polish with foam, then a finishing polish, followed by wax, sealant, or ceramic coating. Using the wrong product or pad combination can burn through gelcoat permanently. Sunrise Marine Detailing uses marine-specific compounds and machine polishers calibrated for gelcoat thickness, restoring color on Tampa Bay boats without sacrificing future polish-ability.

Where can I get boat oxidation repair near me?

Boat oxidation repair near Tampa Bay is handled by mobile marine detailers who specialize in gelcoat restoration. The process involves a decontamination wash, a cutting compound stage to remove the oxidized layer, a refining polish, and a protective wax, sealant, or ceramic coating to lock in results. Severely oxidized hulls may need two or three cutting passes. Look for a detailer who shows side-by-side photos and quotes per foot in writing. Sunrise Marine Detailing performs full oxidation restoration at your dock, lift, or driveway across St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, and surrounding waterfront communities.

Should I have oxidation removed from my boat’s gelcoat?

Oxidation removal is the stage of detailing that restores chalky, faded gelcoat back to its original color and gloss. You’ll know your boat needs it if the hull looks white-hazed, color rubs off on your hand, or the surface feels rough rather than glass smooth. Light oxidation responds to a single polish stage, while moderate to heavy oxidation requires a cutting compound followed by refining polish. Sunrise Marine Detailing inspects your gelcoat at the quote stage and recommends the exact number of stages needed, so you only pay for the level of restoration your hull actually requires in Tampa Bay.

How much does a full boat detail typically cost?

A full boat detail in the Tampa Bay area commonly runs a few thousand dollars depending on length and condition. For a 25 to 30 foot boat with moderate oxidation, expect roughly $1,500 to $3,500 for complete restoration including compound, multi-stage polish, sealant, interior detail, and metal work. Adding ceramic coating typically pushes the total to $4,000 to $7,000+ on the same hull. Larger yachts and sportfishers scale up from there. Sunrise Marine Detailing quotes flat per-foot pricing in writing after a photo review, so the number you hear at booking is the number you pay.

How much does it cost to get a boat detailed?

Getting a boat professionally detailed in Tampa Bay typically costs $300 to $1,500 for a standard wash, wax, and interior on boats under 30 feet, and $1,500 to $8,000+ for larger vessels or full correction and ceramic coating packages. Pricing scales with length, condition, and scope: a maintenance wash sits at the low end, while reversing heavy oxidation, polishing stainless, conditioning teak, and coating the hull takes serious labor hours. Saltwater boats need more frequent service than freshwater. Sunrise Marine Detailing builds every quote per boat after reviewing photos, so the price reflects your actual vessel.

What is marine detailing?

Marine detailing is the professional cleaning, correction, and protection of a boat's exterior and interior surfaces using products formulated specifically for gelcoat, marine vinyl, stainless, aluminum, teak, and isinglass. It differs from auto detailing because saltwater, UV exposure, and gelcoat behave differently than clear-coated paint. Core services include hand wash, oxidation removal, polishing, waxing or ceramic coating, metal polishing, and interior conditioning. Sunrise Marine Detailing performs all marine detailing on-site at your slip, lift, or driveway across the Tampa Bay and Pinellas waterfront.

Are boat ceramic coatings worth it based on reviews?

Owner reviews of marine ceramic coatings consistently report easier washdowns, better water beading, reduced salt and bird staining, and noticeably less oxidation over a two to five year window compared to wax. The catch: results depend almost entirely on prep work. A ceramic coat applied over oxidized or contaminated gelcoat fails fast, regardless of the brand on the bottle. Honest reviews call out detailers who skip compounding and polishing. Sunrise Marine Detailing performs full paint correction before every ceramic coating in Tampa Bay, and the 4.9 star Google average reflects coatings that actually hold up.

Where can I find boat oxidation repair near me in Tampa Bay?

For boat oxidation repair in the Tampa Bay area, look for a mobile detailer experienced in multi-stage gelcoat correction, not just heavy wax. Proper repair involves compounding with appropriate pads, polishing to remove haze, and applying a sealant or ceramic coating to slow re-oxidation. A single-step wax over chalky gelcoat looks decent for two weeks then fades back. Sunrise Marine Detailing performs full oxidation correction dockside or in your driveway across St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, and surrounding waterfront communities, with documented before and after results.
